Srila Prabhupada says that our temples are not meant for bell ringing, but to impart spiritual knowledge to people who are leading their lives ignorant of the message of the revealed scriptures. We have started this department with an aim of serving the visitors who are first time coming in contact with ISKCON.
First time visitors to the Mangala Arati in the morning are gathered after the Tulasi Arati in the preaching room and are introduced to the chanting of the Hare Krsna Mahamantra with some basic philosophy of Krsna Consciousness. For many visitors it is an enlivening experience and most of them take vows to chant at least 2 to 8 rounds everyday. Guests who are further interested give their contacts, who are followed up by devotees.
Visitors of the temple getting introduced to chanting of Hare Krsna Mahamantra
Apart from this throughout the day we have a facility on top of Srila Prabhupada Samadhi for the visitors to experience the chanting of the Holy Names. There are 108 flowers marked on the floor and the visitors are asked to chant one Mahamantra on every flower thus completing one round of chanting. Every visitor receives little Prasad after the chanting. Guests who commit to chant at least one round everyday are accompanied to the preaching room where they are taught chanting on beads and introduced to the basic philosophy of Krsna Consciousness. They are also given a small gift consisting of japa mala and a beautiful Deity lamination. Guests who want to remain in regular touch with the devotees are enrolled in the Follow up program.
On ordinary days around 300 to 600 people chant the Mahamantra in Samadhi Mandir, out of which 30 to 60 people receive free mala and commit to chant at least one round of Hare Krishna daily. On special days and weekends there are around 2000 people chanting in Samadhi mandir and up to150 people receive free mala in the office.
