One of the most popular events in the holy town of Vrindavan, India - where Lord Krishna appeared 5,000 years ago - is the celebration of Jhulan Yatra, the Radha-Krishna swing festival. Sri Sri Krishna Balarama Mandir was packed with thousands of people from surrounding towns and villages who came to see this auspicious festival in the sacred month of Shravana (July-Aug) over a period of four consecutive days i.e. from the 1st August to 4th August.
Every day around 5 Pm, Utsav Deities Sri Sri Radha Shyamsunder and Lalita,Visaka were brought from the main altar and they were seated in the Jhulan in the mandap. After performing artik seva, bhoga was offered. After the offerings, devotees and the visiting pilgrims pulled the swing turn by turn. All throughout ecstatic kirtan was performed by the devotees. Many of the visiting pilgrims were spell bound by the beautiful decoration, inspiring kirtan and of course prasad. Around 8.15 PM Their Lordships returned to their altar in time for the SayanArtik.
In the temple courtyard a special Jhulan Mandap was temporarily erected. On all the four days, the Jhulan was very beautifully decorated with fragrant flowers, greeneries by devotees. Day one the students and staff of BGIS took care of the decoration, day two devotees from the Youth Forum did decoration. Devotees from the Sankirtan department took care of the third day and Brahmachari Ashram devotees did decoration for the last and the fourth day. A wonderful team spirit and team work was exhibited by the devotees. An interesting spiritual completion was taking place between the teams to do the best decoration.
Sri Sri Radha Krishna Jhulan Yatra Mahotsav ki Jai!
